What to build

From a complex Shot's previz section, "Open in Blender" opens a Blender scene built for the Shot. The filmmaker animates in it and renders with one "Playblast for AI Studio" action.

  • Blender executable: an app-level setting that detects the usual install locations, following the ffmpeg locator's pattern. When Blender can't be found, "Open in Blender" explains what is missing and how to fix it.
  • Previz folder: each Shot has a working folder in the media folder, named by its stable Shot id (not its label, so relabelling never breaks the link). It holds the scene spec, the bootstrap script, the saved .blend file and the playblast output.
  • Scene spec: a pure studio-core function of the Shot. It covers the effective aspect ratio and a working resolution, H3's frame rate and the Shot's frame count, the subjects in Shot subject order with their Character names and colours, and the playblast output path. This ticket defines the fixed, ordered colour palette: a subject keeps its colour while the Shot's subject list is unchanged.
  • Bootstrap script: shipped and versioned by the app, in the spirit of ADR-0002. On first run it builds the scene (ground plane, a camera at the spec's ratio and frame range, one flat-coloured proxy figure per subject named after its Character, in a default line-up in front of the camera) and saves the .blend file. On later runs it opens the saved file. Both register the "Playblast for AI Studio" operator. The operator sets the output path, resolution, frame range, solid/flat/object-colour viewport shading with no overlays, and H.264 MP4 output, then runs a viewport render of the animation.
  • "Open in Blender" writes or refreshes the spec and the bootstrap, then launches Blender. It never overwrites the saved .blend file.
  • "Rebuild Blender scene" moves the saved .blend file aside within the folder, then builds the scene again.
  • ADR-0003: the spec lives in studio-core. Tauri only launches Blender.

Acceptance criteria

  • Scene spec integration tests: aspect ratio, frame count, subjects in order with stable colours (unchanged when the subjects are unchanged), output path inside the Shot-id folder
  • A Blender executable setting, detected on a normal install, and a clear error when it is missing
  • "Open in Blender" builds the scene the first time and reopens the saved file afterwards
  • "Rebuild Blender scene" keeps the old .blend file beside the new one
  • Checked by hand with a real Blender install: the operator writes a flat-shaded, untextured MP4 of the Shot's exact length and ratio to the output path, and importing that file (#159) gives a current previz
