Question

How should reviewing Takes look and behave? Cover browsing Takes per Shot, comparing draft Renditions, circling, per-Take notes, queuing Promotion, the "same take, new seed" variant, and showing stale Takes.

Prototype: branch prototype/dailies (/prototype/dailies?variant=A|B|C; A screening room, B coverage wall, C take ledger).

Layout. Dailies is one screen per Scene with a toggle between two views of the same Takes:

  • Coverage wall (variant B): one row of Take tiles per Shot, grouped by Setup, with the Shot's Board, a stale count and a "no circled Take" warning. Tick up to 4 Takes into a synced side-by-side compare tray. Each row ends with a "+ Take" tile.
  • Table (variant C): a sortable, filterable list of every Take (unseen / circled / stale / draft-only / NG) with batch Promote and batch new seed.
  • Screening mode (variant A), opened from either view: plays unseen Takes in order, keyboard-driven (C circle, N note at playhead, P promote, R new seed, J/K next/prev, hold B to flip to the Shot's circled Take).
  • Details panel (from C): A/B wipe against another Take of the Shot, and a table of the Take's inputs against the current ones.

Circling. A Shot may have several circled Takes. The Animatic plays the only circled Take, or the Pinned take if one is set, otherwise the most recently circled one. Only a circled Take can be pinned, and uncircling it clears the pin. Every circled Take exports as a Good Take.

Promotion of stale Takes is allowed, with an inline warning that names the stale inputs, next to "new seed with current inputs". The final keeps the stale flag.

Same take, new seed makes a new Take with the current inputs by default. Stale Takes also offer "new seed with original inputs". The new Take records which Take it was rolled from.

Notes are a list per Take, each with an optional timecode (N while screening sets it, typing in the table doesn't). On export they are joined into Resolve's Comments field as lines like @3.2s …. Whether timecoded notes also become markers is left to "Edit package layout".

Seen is a stored flag on the Take. A Take counts as seen once it has played through in screening or been opened in the details panel (hovering doesn't count). There is "mark all seen" per Shot and per Scene. A newly rendered final marks the Take unseen again.

Failed and NG Takes. A failed Take shows Retry (same Take, same seed, re-queued) and Delete (removes the record, and its number is not reused). A Take can be marked NG: it is hidden from the wall and the reel but shown in the table under an NG filter, and a circled Take can't be NG. An NG Take's Rendition files can be deleted to free space while the Take and its provenance stay. The deletion and undo rules are left to "External media view and cleanup".

Glossary: added Pinned take, NG take and Dailies to CONTEXT.md. Circled take now allows several per Shot.
